Jeannette est dans l’air: Five Vignettes

By Albert N. Katz

I

I saw you in a cloud
you were a jay, soaring
now a swan
drifting languidly with the tide

II

I heard you on the stereo
softly chanting inchoate words
behind the beat
of the Buena Vista Social Club

III

I tasted you in the wine
Big, Bold, with a hint of citrus
you languished on my palate
long after the bottle was finished

IV

I smelled you in the garlic twice
pungent on my fingers as I chopped it thin
and then again softly sweet
as it was cooking

V

I felt you in the summer breeze
warm fingers around my arms and down
blanketing me
from the evening chill
