Daily Harmonies

By Mary E Haque

wrapped safely in my own melody

I see musical staves of time lagging

behind other eyes passing me

on the bustling Chicago streets—

I attend pitches of their music

on train seats

sporting a learning costume

like mine

then we exit onto the platforms

and our occupied feet

scurry paths together pursuing

destinations that long for an end

to the next

rhythm of tomorrows, still

we score our compositions imperfectly

adding harmony to our flaws,

our songs vertically align

creating our own

symphonies.
